According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the average annual solar radiation on the African continent is 2119 kWh/m². In most countries in North Africa, West Africa and South Africa, the average annual solar radiation is more than 2100 kWh/m².

The "Solar Energy Annual Outlook 2024: A Review of the status quo of solar energy in African countries" report released by the African Solar Energy Industry Association shows that in 2023, Africa's new solar installed capacity of 3.74GW, an increase of 19% year-on-year, setting a record, with a total installed capacity of 16.3GW, and photovoltaic energy storage capacity growth will continue until 2025 or even longer.
